Slickrock Trail (take 2)
After a weak showing on the Slickrock Trail yesterday we decided to go back and try again. This time, we put the bikes in the trunk of the car and drove up there. And we didn't do the practice loop. This was WAY smarter.
We conquered the trail in a sub-2hr ride (minus stops). I rode everything apart from a few super sandy washes. I LOVE this trail! Afterwards I even got complimented by some free-riders saying I must be really strong if I could ride the whole trail in my road-bike shoes (i.e. no traction to walk up the steep climbs). I responded by saying thanks, I didn't have to walk much. Yes, I rule!
We celebrated our super awesome ride by lunching at the Slickrock Cafe. It had a weird Hawaiian theme which didn't quite fin in with the rest of the town. We stocked up on fruit, lunch stuff, and drinks, and got a second cooler (the first one was leaking into the back seat. Good thing it's a rental.) We put the second cooler inside the first cooler and are now super-cooling our drinks.
We picked up postcards and a gift for Mike & Caroline for watching Zoe, then hit the road for Mesa Verde National Park. In our campsite at Mesa Verde we had 3 deer walk right through! I love this.
We finally sacrificed the firewood in the pit-burning ceremony.
