Race Report

So...the race report...Well, I was 4th in my age group and 12th overall, which is very good considering the competition at this particular event. But...that puts me one spot out of guaranteed qualifying. We think the woman who was 3rd in my age group is already on the list to go to World's because she qualified last July. But I will have to wait (up to 4 weeks) for USAT to contact me and ask me if I want to go. It looks promising, but at this point, anything can happen!
The race itself was great. We ran through the desert and rode through McDowell Mtn Park. It was so beautiful and seeing everything all over again really made me want to move back! I fell back pretty far on the first run, but then passed everyone on the bike (I was 4th fastest of the women on the bike!). So once again, my biking saved me. The second run was brutal - they sent us down a gravel road (the big, chunky, deep kind of gravel) then up and over this huge hill. I actually walked the second half of the hill. UGH! Then we finished on a paved road. I guess I went hard enough b/c by the end I was about to cramp up. To make it to 3rd place I would have had to take off 4 minutes off my time. Right. I couldn't have done that if I wanted to.

The Pros were out in full force at this race. In the Pro Men's field, the winner of the 2000 Olympics for triathlon was there, Simon Whitfield. Needless to say, he won, but not by much! Only by about 40 seconds. He must not be in shape yet. ; )
