First, I suddenly got very good at "home health care" since Jim arrived at my house before xmas with a severe case of the flu, and left with a broken ankle! (The two were not related.)
Snow ShowersI have gotten some very good use out of my snowshoes and H2O-proof boots. The first outing was with Jim and Zoe, we went back to Trillium Lake and did the loop in the opposite direction for some variety. The next outing was a very wet and rainy hike on Lief Erickson (sans snowshoes). This was especially memorable as Jim and Zoe took a shower together afterwards to clean up....he he...The last trip was a group hike with the Portland Hiking Meetup Group. A dozen of us went to Frog Lake snopark and hiked a loop around the Twin Lakes. We even did some "back-country" stuff where I really got to test things out. FUN! Here's the rest of the Twin Lakes pics.
See Jim Snowboard...See Jim Break his Ankle

Uh...it started out as a really fun day...let's see...Jim rented some crappy equipment from the ski resort, I taught him how to snowboard, we made it down a few runs together, then he went missing for about 1 1/2 hours. The last I heard him say, as he was getting out of control going down the slope and into some trees, was "did you see me do that cart-wheel thing again?".
After taking a few runs by myself for awhile, I got bored and eventually found him back in the rental place, with one boot still on, and his leg elevated. After a quick sled ride over to the clinic, x-rays, a "professional" ice pack (see pic), intimately getting to know the medical staff and receiving a hand-knit wooly sock with a bell (so I'll be able to find him when he wanders off...??),
we finally got out of there with his leg in a temporary splint and the x-rays on his own personal CD. Hooray!TGI2008
There's nothing like having a freshly broken bone and going out for a night on the town. At least we went in style in a black town car with some Russian dude driving us around. All I will say about this night is that I will never, ever, drink cheap champagne again. Oh, and that one can actually dance while on crutches. Happy New Year!!

I was reading this out loud to James and when I got to the part about the broken ankle, he said very quietly "she's gonna kill him."
I laughed for 5 minutes.
