This morning Doug and Craig arrived at my house ready to drive out to the coast. I was going along for the ride, and a free breakfast, and then driving the car home while they ride their bikes back. We ate at Lazy Susan's cafe in Cannon Beach which is in the really cool old house, but which was never actually anyone's house. It was originally the US Bank, then a gift shop, then a restaurant. We took some pics in front of the ocean to prove we were there and headed out.
On my way back I stopped at a couple of bike shops feeling the need to buy a new bike computer. I have two computers mounted on my bike now and want to consolidate. One is the HAC4 which is great for distance and power output. The other is the Polar 650s which is great for HR and altitude. I don't need both but the HAC4 is horrible at altitude and I don't have the power add-on for the Polar. For this tour I really just want speed, distance and altitude. Power would be nice but is not a requirement.
I found a couple of options in the $150-200 range. One is the iBike Sport. This has altimeter and power meter and all the other basic cycle computer options, but is not wireless. Another option would be to try to find a speed sensor for my Polar, but I'm not sure it has auto start/stop which will get really annoying the first few times I forget to start it again. Then there is a Vetta model which also has altimeter but I haven't found any reviews of it so would be buying it blind. I probably shouldn't be thinking of replacing my computers so soon before the tour but hey, that's never stopped me before!
Maybe I'll pack first and mull it over.
