Bike Tour Day 11 Glenwood Springs

Today started off slow as my legs didn't want to turn in circles for about an hour or so. Once we got going I was fine, but all day I felt a tiredness I haven't felt yet on this tour. I think the last 10 days has taken its toll and it's starting to show. My body is starting to change, I can feel a strength in my legs I've never had before, but at the same time they are incredibly sore.

There weren't too many highlights today. We got passed in both directions on one stretch of road by a bunch of trucks. It seemed like 15 of them came past us in the opposite direction, then turned around and came back. They were nice though and gave us plenty of room. Apparently on this section of road, Lon didn't actually drive it, he used Google Maps to route it out and it was short by about 10 miles. It was a nice road with a 1-2% grade and a tailwind. We were able to go 22-25 mph without much effort at all.

We stopped in the town of Rifle for our last rest stop. Everyone there had the 1000 yard stare going on. Yup, we're all feeling the weariness.

On the last section to Glenwood Springs I had a near miss with an oncoming, huge black F350 truck. He pulled out super fast to come around several cars and probably didn't see us riding on the shoulder. It was so close, the huge side mirror was probably 4 inches from my head as he roared by us at 80 mph. All I thought was oh shit, black truck. That's all I had time to think of it happened so fast. I kept on riding but when I got back to the room I lost it.

Once we got to the hotel Doug opened the whiskey and poured shots. Then we walked around town, went to the local bike shop, went through the Hotel Colorado where I stayed 4 years ago, and saw the hot springs. Next up is a PAC Tour ice cream social in the parking lot. Yum!
