Bike Tour Day 7 Brigham City

Today we decided to push the pace a bit faster as there were no direct headwinds, just crosswinds. And there was cloud cover the whole day too, so even though the temps were still in the 90's it felt cooler. After the complete suffer-fest yesterday we wanted revenge on the Idaho winds, and we got it.

We were the first to arrive at each rest stop and lunch, and we even arrived at the motel SO early we had to wait for the bags and bike racks to be unloaded. It was nice to get back over an hour earlier than yesterday. It's amazing how just having one extra hour to decompress, shower and do laundry can make all the difference in my attitude.

We rode through this town called ATK, which is really a 7 mile sprawl of the ATK rocket making/launching company. It was pretty impressive. There were massive buildings all over the hillside and interesting looking pyramid domes that looked like they could house rockets. During one stretch of road here we were attacked en masse by grasshoppers. They were jumping right at us and we were getting bombarded. Luckily I was drafting Doug so he was deflecting most of the huge jumping creatures. I just zipped up my jersey and tried to keep my mouth closed.

I would have really like to go to the Golden Spike NHS but it was at least a 10 mile out and back, and with the day already being 149 miles there was just no way I was going to ride an extra hour or more. One day I'll come back for a real visit.

For dinner we went to this local diner, J&D's, where all the old farmers were hanging out. One guy in overalls totally sounded like Billy Bob Thornton from Slingblade....uh huh, I reckon so. And it was the cheapest dinner so far, only $5 for a cheeseburger and fries!

I didn't get many pics today, mostly because it was overcast and I didn't think the shots would turn out. When we got into Brigham City there were some really cool buildings that I would have like to get pictures of but I couldn't be bother to stop and do it. I just wanted to get to the motel and get a Coke.

As a fellow Oregonian, I wish you the best on your bike journey. I'm currently following the blog of 4 guys riding from VA to Florence, OR. They're also riding thru Baker City. You may want to post on their blog: http://pedalingwest.blogspot.com/

That's amazing to be going across the country carrying all your own stuff. We are fully supported and sleep in hotels. A couple of other riders are keeping blogs too - http://portlandtogeorgiabybike.blogspot.com/ and http://www.bentwanderings.blogspot.com/
